Vote Socialist Fighter Anne McAllister in North East Ward, Glasgow City Council By election
Scottish Trade Unionist and Socialist Coalition to stand local community fighter Anne McAllister in North East ward Glasgow by election.
The by election is on 21st November. The Scottish TUSC steering committee met on 14/10/ 24 and selected Anne McAllister as our candidate. We understand at the time of writing there are likely to be anti cuts/ socialist candidates in the other Glasgow contested wards of Drumchapel/ Anniesland and Maryhill and would call for support for them against pro cuts parties.
Anne Mcallister a member of Socialist Party Scotland and a Easterhouse resident said “What real change from the Tories have the new Labour MP’s brought to the working class? Pensioners face the cold with the fuel allowance being cut and families struggle with the two child benefit cap to put food on the table. We also have the SNP and Labour saying real wage and benefit rises can’t be afforded. That’s why I stand for socialist change and for a new mass workers party based on the trade unions. People are fed up of pro cuts politicians that didn’t stand up to the Tories and now don’t stand up to Starmer’s bosses Labour. I say restore the winter fuel allowance now! nationalise energy bring down our bills”.

“I first met Anne when she supported our picket line in the east end, daily, when the Glasgow Unison Homelessness Case workers won a strike after taking 17 weeks of action. Anne lives in Blairtumnock and has a proud record of organising struggle locally she was involved in setting up the successful Easterhouse Against the Bedroom Tax campaign. I support her in this election because unlike all the current councillors she stands on our trade unions policy of setting a no cuts/ needs budget utilising all financial mechanisms including reserves, borrowing, debt management and cancellation of PFI/PPP to end all cuts. In our city homelessness, poverty, drug deaths are increasing as public services strain under cuts. We need a fighting socialist councillor who rather than passing on close to a billion in cuts as the SNP, Labour and the Greens over the last decade, launches a mass campaign uniting the trade unions and communities to demand back the money stolen in cuts we need”.
