Glasgow Langside election: Vote TUSC on Thursday
Matt Dobson
The Scottish Trade Unionist and Socialist Coalition (TUSC) is standing Ian Leech, leading Glasgow trade unionist and Socialist Party Scotland member in the Langside by election on August 6th.
Ian Leech ” TUSC is standing on a 100% anti austerity program. The Glasgow Labour council is implementing £29 million cuts on top of hundreds of millions over the last five years. The SNP and the Greens in opposition only put forward austerity lite. When people have heard our alternative, fighting the cuts tooth and nail by mobilising workers and communities they are interested, already a significant number are disappointed the SNP are not using their mandate to fight the cuts rather than implement them.”
Thousands of TUSC postcards have been distributed across the ward. The campaign is raising the demand that the council set a no cuts budget and campaign against all austerity and win back the tens of millions stolen from Glasgow by the Tories and the postcard explains that Ian, as a socialist councillor, would support all workers and communities fighting the cuts.
Anti bedroom tax activists and trade unionists who were involved in the successful recent 17 week strike of the Glasgow Homeless Caseworkers have supported and been active in the campaign.
Ian has had a statement on the grotesque pass the parcel of Tory austerity by the Labour council and the SNP government covered in the local press.
TUSC aims to continue to build a base in the area for the Scottish Parliament election in 2016 and the council election in 2017.
