REVOLT AGAINST AUSTERITY – Public Meetings

Is socialism back on the agenda?

Socialist Party Scotland is holding a series of public meetings in Scotland:

Speakers include:  Cllr. Mick Barry, Socialist Party Ireland; Peter Taaffe, Committee for a Workers International; plus speakers from PCS and Youth Fight for Jobs.

FRANCE AND GREECE REJECT AUSTERIT
Elections across Europe have sounded a clear message: ‘No to austerity’. In just over a year ten governments in Europe have been
kicked out as the opposition to unrelenting cuts grows. Parties of the radical left and also, dangerously, parties of the far-right
have made electoral gains. Recently the people of Greece and France havemade clear that they do not accept the lie that there is
no alternative to cuts.

MASS OPPOSITION IS GROWING
Here in Scotland and across Britain amajority of those that voted used the local elections to punish the Con-Dem’s. General
strikes, occupations andmass protests are sweeping Europe. Greece has had 17 general strikes in two years, and Spain and Italy are
starting to catch up. In Britain in 2011 we had the biggest single day of strike action since 1926 against cuts to pensions and
these strikes against cuts will grow.

MASS NON-PAYMENT IN IRELAND
In Ireland over 1million people have refused to pay the household tax – an austerity tax imposed by the right wing government.
Huge numbers will vote against the European austerity treaty at the end ofMay in the referendum. The Socialist Party is helping to
lead thismass campaign in Ireland and Mick Barry, a Socialist Party councillor from Cork, will be speaking at our meetings.

THERE IS AN ALTERNATIVE
Is democratic socialismthe alternative to endless austerity and, if so, how can we bring it about? Come to our public meetings to
discuss the lessons the growing revolt against austerity. Join the battle to stop the cuts and the struggle to build a socialist society
in the interests of the 99%.
